What exactly does IFRS involve?

IFRS is an international set of reporting rules for preparing financial statements. These standards aim to make financial information comparable, transparent and reliable worldwide.

What exactly does IFRS 1 involve?

IFRS 1 governs the first-time application of IFRS. This standard describes how a company makes the transition from a local reporting framework to IFRS. Opening balance sheets have to be prepared, differences analysed and specific exemptions and exceptions assessed. Good preparation prevents delays and unnecessary corrections after the fact.

My company currently reports under Dutch GAAP. When is a move to IFRS worthwhile?

A move to IFRS often comes up with international growth, foreign shareholders, an intended sale, a stock market listing or new financing needs. IFRS increases the comparability of financial information and often matches the information needs of international stakeholders better.

We already have a strong finance department. What is your added value then?

Many IFRS questions arise only occasionally, for example with acquisitions, complex financing, lease questions or the first application of new standards. Our specialists act as a sparring partner for CFOs, controllers and finance teams and provide specialist knowledge at the moments when it is needed. That way you strengthen your own organisation without having to bring in extra expertise permanently.

Do you also support us with specific IFRS questions?

Absolutely. We advise on IFRS 16 (leases), IFRS 15 (revenue recognition), business combinations, goodwill, impairment questions, consolidation, financial instruments and reporting questions around international group structures, among other things. In doing so we look not only at the technical treatment, but also at the impact on your business and your stakeholders.
